About The Bonded Warehouse
The Origins & Development of the Stourbridge Navigation Trust & the Bonded Warehouse
The Stourbridge Navigation Trust was established in 1985 with the object of preserving and maintaining the canal and the associated buildings which include the listed structure known as the Bonded Warehouse for the good of all canal users and the general pubic.
The Trust has evolved over the years and it is now a Charitable Trust Limited by Guarantee (registered No. 1094294). Over the years a considerable amount of work has been carried out to restore and maintain all of the buildings on the site and a successful Heritage Lottery application in 1996 enabled the entire towpath from Stourbridge Wharf to Wordsley Junction to be resurfaced and it is now a very well used Canal Walk and Cycle Way.
The Bonded Warehouse itself is in use on virtually every day of the week and is the home to a number of activity groups and clubs which include Stourbridge Photographic Society, Stourbridge Railway Society, Prestwood Bonsai Circle and many others. It is also available for hire for Weddings, Birthday Parties and Conferences.
The Canal Basin which is alongside the Warehouse is a secure mooring area for up to 30 Narrow boats and visitors are always welcome for overnight stays or for longer periods by arrangement with the Trust Manager. Facilities include:
- Elsan
- Pump Out
- Water
- Gas
- Coal
