Starting at 10.00am from The Bonded Warehouse, Stourbridge, this walk will see participant’s complete a seven mile round trip at their own pace along the Stourbridge Arm of the canal on the newly re-laid towpath, heading via Wordsley Junction to the Prestwood / Stourton area before returning to The Bonded Warehouse.
Good proper walking footwear and attire is recommended especially if the weather has been inclement or is poor on the day. Dogs are welcome. Young children should be accompanied at all times.
The entry fee of just £1 per person is payable on the day. Free car parking and toilet facilities will be available at the Bonded Warehouse. Light refreshments will also be available.
Councillor Dave Tyler, Mayor of Dudley said:
“After the Christmas festivities and over-indulgence lots of people start the new year with renewed enthusiasm to get fitter and slimmer. I hope that people will come on the sponsored walk to help kick start their fitness campaigns and meanwhile help to raise money for three worthy charities”.
All profits from the walk will be donated to the Mayor of Dudley’s charities, which are Dudley Mind, the YMCA and Dudley Alzheimer’s Society.
There will also be a chance to snap up a copy of a calendar produced by local artists and photographers on behalf of the Mayor. Reflections: Photographs and Paintings of Dudley also go to Councillor Tyler’s chosen charities.
People who are interested in positively supporting the walk can register at https://www.mayorofdudley.org.uk/events-1/mayors-winter-walk/form. A sponsorship form will subsequently be sent via email.
The Willow Tree tearooms at the half way point (on the A449 near The Stewponey) is being asked to put on a ‘Mayor’s special’ (tea and toast) for walkers as a favour to the Mayor for potentially generating footfall at the tearooms. It was noted that last year the toast was really good and at a fair price too.
