A Nationally Recognised Heritage Vessel
The Blackcountry Man is proud to be one of only a select few vessels in the entire UK to be formally recognised as part of the National Heritage Fleet. This prestigious status reflects her unique history, craftsmanship, and cultural importance.
At the same time, we take modern safety incredibly seriously. The boat is equipped with the latest fire‑suppression system for the engine bay, and in 2026 she successfully completed extensive Marine and Coastguard Agency testing, ensuring she meets the highest standards for passenger safety and comfort.
When you cruise with us, you’re stepping aboard a piece of living history—maintained, operated, and cared for to modern standards.
Our Story
Built in Netherton in 1948, The Blackcountry Man began life as an unpowered steel cargo boat, moved by tug, horse, or sheer human effort. She was converted into a passenger vessel in 1986 and has been proudly operated by the Stourbridge Navigation Trust since 1991.
Today, she’s a spacious 70‑foot trip boat with seating for up to 50 passengers, onboard toilets, and a fully stocked bar—perfect for relaxed cruising with family, friends, or colleagues.
